10.07.2017 / Baku, Azerbaijan The Modern Information Society and Innovations Public Union held an event called “Promotion of national and moral values and Azerbaijani truths in social media” at the International Press Center. The event was attended by Hikmat Babaoglu, a deputy of the National Assembly, Gulsel Safarova, an employee of the Social and Political Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, organization chairmen, project activists and press workers. Bahruz Garamammadov, the coordinator of the project who opened the event with an introduction, gave information about the history of the Public Union and spoke about the purpose of the project. He noted that the youth of Azerbaijan are sparing their efforts and struggle to prevent the appropriation of the nation’s national and moral values by other nations through the press and foreign TV channels: “Not only our youth, but also cultural figures actively participate in the protection of our rich national poetry and musical treasure. The main duty of every Azerbaijani citizen should be to protect our national and moral values from the negative trends of the globalization period, to make efforts to convey the rich historical and cultural heritage created by our people for thousands of years to future generations. Each topic is selected by its relevance, and it is important to promote it in the topic of national and cultural values. If this propaganda is carried out widely, the historical memory of the citizens will become stronger. There is a great spiritual need for meetings with professional, well-known artists in educational institutions, at many intellectual level events, and on television programs. Special attention should be paid to this in mass media. Because most of the time non-professional people are given a lot of space in the field of art. This prevents the formation of aesthetic taste and enrichment of spirituality in the audience.” B. Garamammadov added that the theft of our national and moral values can also be prevented by legal means: “For this, appeals are made to the European Court or other relevant institutions. As the national values of Azerbaijan are properly conveyed to the world, many serious accomplishmets are achieved at the international level.” Deputy Hikmat Babaoglu, who spoke later, metioned that information solves everything at the present time and today the information society is forming a unique power: “The latest incident clearly revealed the position of information in social media. On July 4, the brutal murder of infant Zahra by Armenians was translated into different languages with certain statuses and titles and shared on social networks especially by our young people. These were very important and right steps. Due to that, embassies and neighboring countries did not remain indifferent to the issue and expressed their positions. And as a result, 3 days later, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group amended their initial statement. It is true that we are not completely satisfied with this, but it is much different than before. Gulsel Safarova, the responsible employee of the Presidential Administration, made a speech and noted that this project is a timely project: “This topic is very broad and has a special importance for Azerbaijan. The government of Azerbaijan has expressed its position not only about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the OSCE Minsk Group, but also the recent Alkhanli tragedy in the media and social networks. In addition, the citizens of Azerbaijan, the youth of the country, show special activity and join such events. “Our young people are already speaking to an international audience on social media and expressing their opinions.” The event ended with the speeches of the director of the Ethics Academy Gunel Ibrahimova and other participants.
