28.09. 2018 / Baku, Azerbaijan The event of the “Modern Information Society and Innovations” Public Union was held in the International Press Center within the framework of the project “Prevention of managed disinformation policy and support for the protection of national interests in social networks”. Niyaz Niftiyev, chief editor of “Azadinform” information agency, spoke about the place of social networks in modern society. He noted that meetings within the framework of the project were also held in Bilasuvar, Salyan and Jalilabad. Issues such as the negative aspects of the information boom in social networks, the lack of quality at any level, the effects of children’s use of social networks, and self-control in social networks were discussed. Chairman of Journalist Research Center Seymur Verdizade noted about the growing role of social networks in society. He said that when print media was the leader, journalists could not communicate promptly with readers, but today, interactive communication is created through social networks and the opportunities brought by the Internet. S. Verdizade also talked about the problems caused by everyone’s information dissemination in social networks and drew attention to the spread of too much misinformation during the “April Wars” in 2016. Therefore, it was emphasized that attention should be paid when information is distributed on social networks. S. Verdizade also mentioned that the proposals resulting from the meeting will be reviewed and submitted to relevant institutions.
