An event called “Support for prevention of managed disinformation policy and protection of national interests in social media” was held in Bilesuvar city.

11.10.2018 / Bilasuvar, Azerbaijan “Modern Information Society and Innovations” Public Union continues the implementation of the project “Support to the Prevention of Managed Disinformation Policy and Protection of National Interests in Social Networks” implemented with the assistance of the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations under the President. The next event within the project took place in Bilasuvar. Representatives of local executive authorities, journalists, young people and bloggers participated in the event. Kamil Gurbanli, Deputy Director of the Social-Political and Humanitarian Affairs Department of Bilasuvar District Executive Power, said that they cooperate closely with civil society institutions. He noted that the local executive power is always sensitive to the initiatives of NGOs and closely participates in the organization of public discussions. The expert of the project, well-known journalist Seymur Verdizade told that the current conditions in the country, where the Internet has found a wide base, is a positive moment in terms of freedom of speech and expression. However, it is necessary to try to ensure that the use of social networks by individuals does not conflict with the interests of society. According to him, especially during extreme situations, public opinion created on social networks can cause negative consequences. Mirza Jafarov, chief adviser of the Department of Social, Political and Humanitarian Affairs of Bilasuvar District Executive Power, called on young people participating in social networks to be active defenders of national interests. He noted that it is necessary to make maximum use of the opportunities of social networks in order to bring the facts of Azerbaijan to the attention of the international community.
