12.10.2018 / Jalilabad, Azerbaijan “Modern Information Society and Innovations” Public Union continues the implementation of the project “Support to the Prevention of Managed Disinformation Policy and Protection of National Interests in Social Networks” implemented by the State Support Council for Non-Governmental Organizations under the President. Representatives of the local executive power, journalists, young people and bloggers took part in the event organized in Jalilabad within the framework of the project. Logman Huseynov, deputy director of the Department of Social, Political and Humanitarian Affairs of Jalilabad District Executive Power, said that the institution he represents is interested in cooperation with civil society institutions. He said that public discussions with the participation of NGOs are beneficial for both parties. According to him, since the protection of national interests in social networks is a national issue, all layers of society should actively participate in this process. Seymur Verdizade, an expert of the project, a well-known journalist, noted that the goal is to ensure that young people protect national and moral values in information resources, especially in social networks, and to prevent the spread of misinformation: “Currently, the use of the Internet by children is at a high level. But the issue of quality, unfortunately, is not at the level we want. The purpose of holding such events is to be sensitive to such problems. In general, all social platforms are called “virtual street”. But there is almost no control mechanism here. Social networks should not become energy graveyards for our teenagers and young people. We have to take care of our youth to spend their time more effectively.” Seymur Verdizade further said that social media, which is one of the modern contemporaries of the Internet age, is already surpassing traditional media: “In contrast to classical media, information exchange in social media takes place faster, the shared information is read by a wider readership. In addition to freedom of speech and expression in our country, the presence of a free internet environment and the lack of a unified control mechanism over social media allow a number of fanatical and radical religious groups to conduct propaganda and recruitment campaigns on this platform. Therefore, every social network participant should be careful and try to prevent provocative tendencies.”
