Today, the Chairperson of the Board of the Modern Information Society and Innovations Public Union (Union) Seymur Hasanov and Board member Hakima Shiralizade presented at a conference as a guest lecturer at Lund University to the participants of Innovation in Governance for Urban Nature-based Solutions (NBS) capacity development program. The importance of ensuring citizen participation in “smart cities” and “smart villages”, methods, and proposals for involving citizens in the processes were presented at the conference.
At the same time, detailed information was given on the examples of Sweden and Denmark, where the best practices of involving citizens in the process exist, and opinions were exchanged on the topic. Also, the projects carried out according to the relevant concept in Azerbaijan, especially in Karabakh, Agali village of Zangilan district, which is the first smart village, were shown, and detailed information was given about the works carried out in the village about 14 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The transformation of the region from a devastated and mined area into a “smart” settlement where the most modern solutions are applied was visually brought to the attention of the conference participants.
During the presentation, relevant opinions and proposals of the participants were heard. One of the participants suggested more active involvement of citizens in the process of planning and development of smart cities and villages, while another participant emphasized the importance of prioritizing green areas and protecting natural resources in the process of urban planning. Additional opinions and suggestions were collected and added to the research paper prepared by the Union regarding the steps to be taken in order to more easily adapt to living in the respective cities and villages by actively involving citizens in the process and developing their digital skills.
